Dinnington Parish Poll Result

Do you wish to allow Rotherham Council to re-draw Dinnington’s greenbelt boundaries to allow housing developers to build hundreds of new houses over the next 15 years?

Yes: 13

No: 315

Spoiled: 2

So a clear result for no building on the greenbelt but not the turnout we had hoped for unfortunately. Thank you very much to all those who voted and helped and supported the poll.

My apologies to all those who were turned away from their first polling station, I hope you stuck with it and went where they told you. Unfortunately no one told me there were specific stations for each street, let alone who should go where!

I am very disappointed in the turnout. There was a man from Swinston Hill when we were at Resource Center & he was told he couldn’t vote there but he said he would go to ST Josephs, wish more people would have made the effort like him. I like my countryside in Throapham.

The low turnout for the Parish Poll confirms there is voter apathy in Dinnington. No doubt that when the results of the local elections are declared a large number of ‘stay-at-home’ residents will be angry/upset/confused by the results.
If you don’t vote then don’t complain.
    Simples.

    Addendum:
I forgot to add the following:
If every resident in Dinnington had voted ‘No’ to building on greenbelt land RMBC will still overrule local area democratic votes such as a Parish Poll.

The turn out may have been low but you can hold your head high mate as the guy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest said, “At least I f—ing tried”. Well done mate and to all those who put the effort in to help and to vote.

Funny how the average person spends 4 hours watching TV a day, but can’t be bothered to spend less than a hour voting on something that could could make a big difference to the community. It’s always somebody else’s responsibility. It is time people took responsibility for their own life’s.

    Victory
A local lad stood up for his beliefs and used democracy to call a referendum = Victory
RMBC are now aware that at future “Electors” Meetings, their authority can be challenged = Victory
For the first Referendum, I would argue an excellent turnout = Victory
People actually came out and stood up for their area, democracy in action =Victory
Victory for the people all round I think.
    Well done Lewis.
