Election Aftermath

As the dust settles in Dinnington and the wider Rotherham Borough has anyone from the ruling Labour group realised why so many people voted UKIP here?

UKIP is a protest party, an angry party. You vote UKIP when you want to say that you are unhappy in no uncertain terms with the status quo.

Are Rotherham Labour genuinely surprised that people are so unhappy with them?

Was it the fact that they ignored child abuse in the town for years and put those councillors most responsible for this neglect into positions of greater power?

Was it the greenbelt issues where our local councillors did not one useful thing to oppose Rotherham Council building a thousand houses over our countryside? (In Dinnington’s case)

Was it the fact that when they pay themselves 1.1 million pounds a year and then try to save money by closing children’s centres?

The cuts to our library? The closure of the Council service centre?

The answer is probably yes to all of the above, Dinnington gets a raw deal in Rotherham and we are sick of it.

Labour supporters fought a massive negative campaign against UKIP, accusing them at times of being a Nazi or Facist party.

Which party spent a decade or more undermining our personal freedoms, taking away our right to free speech, introducing draconian legislation and starting two major wars? Labour.

Who allowed uncontrolled immigration and epic abuse of our benefit system? Yep, look in the mirror folks and you’ll see what an oppressive party really looks like.

BUT I didn’t vote UKIP.

In amongst all the excitement did anyone notice the independent candidate running, our tireless local stalwart Dave Smith? Dave took 579 votes and although this wasn’t the thousand and odd the other two got I think it a great achievement for a guy who stands up for Dinnington on his own with no party machine just a few friends and family helping him out. If you don’t like UKIP and want to see change next time consider voting for Dave because if you want someone who will tirelessly fight for Dinnington and not cow tow to a party line he’s your man.

Dave almost certainly took enough votes off Labour to ensure they didn’t escape by the skin of their teeth as Jo Burton and Gerald Smith did in neighbouring wards.

That’s why I didn’t vote UKIP, I voted for Dave.

Doesn’t it sicken you that UKIP got in? Does it worry you that at some point Dinnington council might have the same views as that awful party? Will it even help Dinnington to ve represented by a extreme right wing party when the people who will be worst off by it are the vast majority of Dinnington?

I would rather have had Dave as my councillor but what I didn’t want above anything is Labour to go unpunished. You talk about an awful party, Labour to me is the worse option possible and they have the track record to prove it.

UKIP will re introduce free eye and teeth checks and the NHS will be free at point of delivery. Mass immigration has damaged our society. immigration should be a last option not the first. We should look at a living wage in the UK and getting people off benefits, at the same time we should be looking at increasing productivity. People in Dinnington aren’t immune from what is happening else where in the country, they have to work in Rotherham and Sheffield and can see the destruction mass immigration is doing. I worked in Slough and London in the 1990’s and didn’t like the way things were going. London is now 40% white British and Slough 35%. Would the American Indian be accused of being racist, if it was protecting itself from destruction from the outside world. Look what happened to the Red Squirrel. I have fears that at some point Sharia Law could be forced on us. Supermarkets are selling Halal meat to us and now Subway have made 10% of their shops Halal(no bacon or pork either). People need to wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late.

It sickens me that Labour controlled Dinnington council has done nothing to revitalise Laughton Road shopping centre. It is still the same litter strewn dumping ground it was 10 years ago.
Fast food and Charity shops dominate Laughton Road and the outdoor Markets area is a disgrace. Closure of the Council Offices and threatened closures of the Childrens Centre and Davies Court is not a vote winner.
Is it any surprise the voters of Dinnington did not vote Labour?

LoveDinnington this is a really good analyses of the election in Rotherham. The Labour party and the rest are running around trying to find excuses for their failure, instead of looking at themselves. Some are even blaming the electorate, these people should understand that if you treat people with contempt they will react against you. In Dinnington we have a town council made up of 14 Labour councillors not one of them, including Jacquie Falvey the candidate, turned out to either deliver leaflets or meet the people they wanted and expected to vote for them. I may not have won the election but at least I was out there where people could come and question me. And I am proud of my family and hard working agent Brian Lewis and the friends who helped me. I also want to thank the 579 people who braved atrocious weather to turn out to vote for me. I believe in democracy and although I have serious issues with UKIP the people of our area voted for their candidate, so now we have a UKIP councillor elected by due democratic process. I will still be here fighting for Dinnington because I sincerely care what happens to our area. Just don’t fall for UKIP’s new slogan about them being the people’s army you out there are that not a political party.
    Dave Smith.
